Zelensky traveled to recently liberated Kup'yansk, just a few kilometers from Russian positions. The man is not afraid to die, he has cojones the size of several Kremlins. OTOH, Putin needs this war to stay in power. He lashed himself to that mast and will go down the moment peace arrives. So, your initial assumption is not correct, the rest is Chekist propaganda fluff.

The crux of the matter is whether you consider a certain side as arguing in good faith or not. My point of view is that all official info from Russia is not worth considering, as it is fully manufactured and paid for by the Kremlin. They don't argue in good faith. I studied them extensively and know both their methods and goals.
