Break the rules! Despite what you might hear about "rules", experiment! Shoot from the hip, into the light, whatever...
Don't use the built-in zoom. The pic quality will suffer and you won't gain any detail. Just zoom on the viewer or computer later.

Shield the lens. If the sun is shining on the lens you will have weird effects. Shade the lens with your hand or move yourself into shade
Newer iPhones have flash. Try with and without and check the effect. Without flash hold the camera very steady!

Put horizons in the right place. Sometimes, putting the horizon down low to emphasize a dramatic sky is preferable.
Experiment all the time. Try different angles, lighting, camera settings. Put the horizon lower down, put the face nearer the corner.
