Zimbabwe was spending $20m per month on it's millitary in the DRC. That involvement in DRC made Mugabe and his inner circle very wealth. Wheels of Africa had a depot in Lusaka along Lumumba road opposite Lusaka High School. A new the guy who was in charge of the Wheels of Africa yard in Lusaka and I can tell you that a shit load of containers with cobalt were coming from DRC via Zambia enroute to South Africa.. Wheels of Africa and a company called Zvinavashe Transport which was owned by Zimbabwean army General, Vitalis Zvinavashe were contracted to ship arms and millitary supplies from Zim to DRC. Laurent Kabila even Wheels of Africa owner, Billy Rautenbach managing director of Gécamines, DRC's state-owned mining company!! All of this was coordinated by Mnangagwa who was then the Justice Minister. This was looting of DRC minerals on a grand scale

#TBThursday I've this book for over a year and I kept pushing it down my reading list until a couple of days ago. Had King Lewanika known how the British South Africa Company (BSA) would shaft Barotse nation, he would ever have allowed them in his country. The BSA slowly and methodically striped King Lewanika of all his power. Imaging ordering that Lewanika be called paramount chief because the real king was in England!!...Or ordering that all Lozi had to kneel and clap when they were in the presence of white people, failure to do so attracted a beating. Imagine chiefs and Indunas having to ask for permission from the DC to leave or enter any district!!..Or the King Lewanika having to seek permission to allocate his own land..Crazy stuff I tell you.

Talking about Shamutete, you've reminded me of one incident at Chez Ntemba in Thornpark in the 90s. Shamutete caused a stampede when he was leaving the nightclub. He got into his chauffeur driven S class and popped up through the sunroof and started making it rain with $100 bills. It was quite a sight. This generation have idea of the looting in the Chiluba era.

ZCCM also has to pay 90% of Trafigura's legal fees, about $2.4 million plus about $100,000 toward the cost of running the arbitration itself. The latest ZCCM financials that are in public domain (HY 2025) show that ZCCM had $12 million cash on hand. ZCCM is also being charged interest at SOFR + 5%...compounded!! Millingo Lungu is yet to explain what happened to the advance payments. Zambian tax payers are on the hook for this judgment amount, so that a few individuals could get rich at the expense of poor Zambians.

What our friend doesn't say is that the rate dropped from 4.03 in 2018 all the way to -2.75 in 2020 He also doesn't say that from -2.75 in 2020, GDP rose all the to 5.4 in 2023.
