🌟 Meet the people behind Development Perspectives 🌟 Next in our staff introductions, we’re delighted to introduce Minh Nguyen. Minh is an MSCA doctoral candidate with the PRESILIENT project at Dublin City University, where her research focuses on the informal economy in Vietnam. She holds a Master of Public Policy from Fulbright University Vietnam and a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology – VNU. Driven by a passion for inclusive development, Minh brings a wealth of experience from her work as a volunteer and social worker with development organisations. She has also been a strong advocate for youth leadership and meaningful youth engagement across the Asia-Pacific region through her involvement with AIESEC and the Asian Development Bank’s Youth for Asia initiative. We’re delighted to have Minh’s knowledge, experience, and passion for inclusive development as part of the team.

Hosted our friends and colleagues from Germany during the last week in Drogheda. Monika and Hannah ( Eine Welt Netz staff) came over as part of a study visit to explore further Global Citizenship Education partnership and collaboration with DP.

Partnership and solidarity is crucially important if we are to address the complex challenges facing communities across the world. Having @devperspectives continuing to base itself in Drogheda is valuable in so many ways for the community and region. ✊

Lots of work to do in the next few weeks and a big challenge ahead! 🇵🇸🇵🇸 What Govt have announced today is essentially a partial ban on trade with the illegal Israeli settlements. Seeking to ban the import of physical goods like fruit and vegetables, shamefully stolen from Palestinian farmers in the occupied West Bank, is important and necessary and was included in my original legislation. But it's not enough. It omits the majority of Irish trade, in intangible services like tech and IT, which would greatly undermines the scope of the legislation. Govt still haven’t given any coherent, detailed justification for this. We need to see that in the Dáil urgently. Last year, the Oireachtas Foreign Affairs Committee spent weeks listening to officials and legal experts on this issue, and voted unanimously, including Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil members, that the ban should be comprehensive and include all trade, both goods and services. That is the standard set in the original Occupied Territories Bill which I tabled, and it’s what the International Court of Justice has clearly said is required under international law. It’s deeply disappointing that the Govt seems to be disregarding this, but it’s not too late for them to do what’s necessary. When the Bill finally hits the floor of the Dáil in the coming weeks I will be working with all opposition parties to table amendments to include services. That has been my clear position since 2018 and I'll do everything in my power to make it happen.

Eolain has a strong passion for sustainability, active citizenship, and global affairs, and brings a thoughtful and creative perspective to his work. Having completed a Master’s in International Politics, he is especially interested in connecting global issues with practical action and exploring sustainable solutions to everyday challenges. An experience that particularly shaped this outlook was living on and renovating a 1960s barge, which highlighted the gap that can often exist between understanding environmental issues in theory and putting sustainable living into practice. Eolain is passionate about building bridges between ideas and action and is excited to continue learning and engaging with others through the work of Development Perspectives. Outside of work, he enjoys nature, sports, games, and travel, and loves connecting with people who want to make a positive impact on human rights and global sustainability. 🌍🌿 We’re delighted to have Eolain’s enthusiasm, curiosity, and passion as part of the team.

Wiza is a PhD Fellow with the University of Bucharest in Romania and Development Perspectives in Ireland as part of the PRESILIENT project, where his work focuses on informality and housing in Zambia. He holds a Master of Science in Urban Management and Development from Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands, and has a strong research interest in areas including urban policy and planning, housing development, sustainable green cities, climate change, urban economics, and public management. Alongside his academic work, Wiza brings extensive professional experience from his work with the University of Zambia and the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure Development in Zambia. We’re delighted to have Wiza’s knowledge, research expertise, and commitment to sustainable development as part of the Development Perspectives community. 🌍🏘️🌱
