Patents: Growing exponentially. Country/ University/ Scientist/ Engineer/ Entrepreneur all claim. Pitches asking for 1 cr valuation often claim dozens of patents. Of course one patent can produce many B$ of prosperity. At times dozens of patents of an entrepreneur cannot even fetch 10000$ I never went for a pitching. But all investors who pitched to me asked “Have you patented”. I used to ask “ What in this routine business can I patent”. I did not want to dilute. So I was comfortable in asking that. Ideas or patents or degrees or awards - Does not mean it is done. Execution matters. That need not be patented. Patents too, are like sperms. Only one in a million only works. Patenting limits the highly probable certain human prosperity into a very low probability of individuals prosperity. As a scientist for 15 yrs in BARC and 25 yrs in Business in building a unicorn nothing I did worth to patent or protect. Patenting may deprive but Execution only can bring prosperity to self and mass. #Focus on Execution.
@chandrarsrikant Many people lost lives and money, forcing them to act..
This clip which was shared with me is about Shri Inder Jit Singh Sidhu of Chandigarh. Apparently, every morning at 6 AM, in the quiet streets of Chandigarh’s sector 49, this 88-year-old retired police officer begins his day in service. Armed with nothing but a cycle cart and an unwavering sense of duty, he moves slowly and purposefully, picking up rubbish from the roadside. He says he wasn’t happy with the ‘low rank’ Chandigarh got in the Swachh Surekshan listing. But instead of complaining, he chooses action. Each piece of trash he clears is more than just litter removed. It’s a statement. A quiet, persistent belief in a better world. A belief in living with meaning, regardless of age or recognition. In a world often obsessed with youth and speed, his slow but steady footsteps tell us that Purpose doesn’t retire. Service doesn’t age. A Salute to this quiet warrior of the streets. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

The Saga of Charles Goodyear - Part 2 Yesterday we discovered how Charles Goodyear, a struggling, bankrupt but an eternally optimistic aspiring chemist, accidentally discovered a way to stabilize rubber in the year 1839. This was when the entire world was racing against each other, trying to figure out how to convert Rubber from a brittle, smelly goo that it was, to something that you could use to make something bigger. And Goodyear was first guy who had figured it out. Your logical assumption that everyone who was everyone, would have made a beeline to Goodyear's house and stuffed him with so much cash that he and his entire family could build a diving board to dive and swim in the money. You would think Goodyear and his family would've lived a life more happily ever after than all the fairy tale people who lived happily ever after. Well, if you did you were wrong. Spectacularly wrong. You see Charles Goodyear was a very hardworking man. And to file a patent being hardworking wasn't enough. You needed to have money, lots of technical knowledge and access to some expensive lawyers, before you could get it. And Goodyear had none of the above. Though he had invented the process of Vulcanization, and even named it, he had as much clue about it as Khushi Kapoor has about Quantum Mechanics. So, when he went to file a patent, he couldn't explain how exactly he stabilized rubber. All he could tell was Rubber + Sulfur + Heat and viola, Rubber. The patent guys didn't like his response. Therefore, they treated his application with as much disdain as an Indian Bureaucrat treats citizen complaints. His Patent kept getting rejected. Given that he was bankrupt, deeply drowned in debt and being chased by creditors like Virat Kohli chases a ball on the fourth stump, he was too busy running around to complete the paperwork for his final process patent. Finally, after a lot of support, including some from his brother-in-law, he finally got his patent in 1844, a good five years after his invention. He was finally set to make as much money as a modern Oil rich state would. Unfortunately, in science, 5 years is almost a generation. Because, during his period of poverty and bankruptcy Goodyear had shown the process to a lot of people in order to earn some cash. And one of those people, was a British Gentleman named Stephen Moulton You see, the British industrialists were also suffering from the same exact problem with rubber. They wanted to use it but couldn't. They were trying and failing very hard to make Rubber stable and usable. So, when they heard of Goodyear, they got to him faster than East India Company reached India. Like East India Company, Stephen Moulton promised Charles Goodyear lots and lots of money and the 19th Century equivalent of a Gulfstream Airplane. All Goodyear had to do, was demonstrate the process of Vulcanization and give Moulton some vulcanized rubber samples. Maybe he was taken in by the posh accent, or his ridiculous hat, we will never know. But he made the same mistake the Mughal emperor Jahangir did. Trusting Moulton, Goodyear gave him everything he needed. He gave it to him without any secrecy pacts or non-disclosure agreements. If history has taught us one lesson, it is this. You don't trust a 19th Century British dude who poses as a humble trader. Because it never ends well for you. In addition to three quarters of the world, poor Charles Goodyear was now an addition to the ever-expanding list of those who were screwed by the British. Because what Moulton never intended to help Goodyear. He wanted to shaft him. He wanted to take his acquired knowledge of the Vulcanization process and the samples and file a patent under his own name in England. With that express idea, he showed the sample and the process to his Rubber enthusiast friend, Thomas Hancock. Unfortunately for Moulton, Hancock did to Moulton what Moulton did to Goodyear. Thomas Hancock went ahead and filed his own patent for the process of Vulcanization. And with no competition, Hancock received it in 1843. A good one year and 8 weeks before Goodyear did. Now Hancock was the undisputed Rubber king of England. When Charles Goodyear saw that he wasn't rolling in the money that he thought he would, he decided to go to England in 1852 to find out what the hell had happened. And when he landed, he realized that people in England thought Hancock had invented Vulcanization. He even had concocted a story for coming up with the term Vulcanization. Naturally Goodyear became angry. And he did what all good people do, when they get angry. He filed a case against Hancock in 1852. He thought if we won the case, he could claim royalties from both Hancock and Moulton. The case went on for three years. In the case he was even supported by the man who originally shafted him, Stephen Moulton. He said Hancock stole the idea from Goodyear. But Hancock argued that he invented the process on his own. He said, nobody could figure out the process just by seeing the samples and it was his amazing intelligent mind that did it. The case went on till 1855. Unfortunately for Goodyear, he couldn't conclusively prove that Hancock stole the process from him. So, the court ruled in Hancock's favour. Goodyear lost. He was back to being penniless and being drowned in debt, despite making what would become one of the most important discoveries / inventions in the modern world. The world moved on. But Goodyear never did. He never got back to being normal. And in 1860, it all ended. In June 1860, he got a call in Washington DC that his beloved daughter was on her deathbed in New York. As soon as he reached his hotel in New York, he received the tragic news that his daughter had passed away. He collapsed right there. On July 1st, 1860, one of Modern era's most important scientists and the guy who made modern world possible, passed away due to Cardiac Arrest. And why do I say Modern World possible? Well imagine a world without rubber. Which means no Tyres, no industries, no shock absorbers, No ships and no Airplanes. Basically, everything important in the 21st century has some rubber in it. Rubber is actually one of the most critical substances in this era. Flight routes are planned because of Rubber. Japan entered WW2, partly because of Rubber. Henry Ford established a 2.5 million acres settlement in Brazil, because of Rubber. If Rubber disappears, the world as we know, disappears. And rubber could be used because Charles Goodyear invented Vulcanization. At the beginning of part 1, I had asked a question. I asked, what is our purpose in life? Is it important to make money? Or is it to leave a legacy? Charles Goodyear was a poor man. He never had any money. And whatever he had; he lost it all. He lived mostly poor and died poor. But 250 years later, we still remember him. We honor him. We talk about him. A random guy, 13000 kms away from his country writes a lengthy post about him. So many people made money out of Rubber, but the guy who showed them the way to do it, never did. But of all those people, we remember Charles Goodyear. In fact, nobody explains our purpose in life better than Charles Goodyear himself. When asked if he felt sad that everybody ripped him off and he never made money from Vulcanization, he said. "The advantages of a career in life should not be estimated exclusively by the standard of dollars and cents, as is too often done. Man has just cause for regret when he sows and no one reaps.” I mean what's the point in earning truckloads of money if nobody benefits from it. It is our legacy that matters. Let us all try to sow the seeds, that everyone reaps. Let us all try to leave our legacy.
Your number one job as a parent is to provide unconditional love to your kids, because it’s the one thing that they can’t get anywhere else.
I agree with you too. But without working for 15 years for 70 hrs per week, I could have not had enough knowledge or money to risk to work for myself. I did not look for investor nor borrowed, to build #Thyrocare Working more made me to learn more than earning more. If you want to live happy even 30 hrs a day should suffice. But if one wishes to surge ahead in career or business or life - watching the watch hardly helps. My wife advised: Be that rabbit that did not love that sleep to be ahead of that tortoise!!!
All those post 2000 born Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma fanboys, don't have any idea how competitive cricket was when Sachin was in his prime. Australian team was invincble. South Africa was unbeatable. New Zealand was New Zealand. Sri Lanka were the World Champions. Pakistan was strong. West Indies were competitive Even Zimbabwe had World beaters. Every team had a world class fast bowler. And a leading spinner. And the rules also made for difficult scoring. Yet Sachin scored against all. Poor 2k kids have no clue when they say Sachin isn't half as good as Kohli / Rohit is.

There only 2 kinds. 1. Living Happy. 2. Did not manage time well. Please prioritize: 1. Learn 2. Earn 3. Save 4. Invest Then keep repeating. 😂 Did BSc in 1978. Started earning. Supported family. Did MSc in 1989. Because my wife supported me. Did PhD in 1995. Because I could afford. Those who stopped learning became fossils. Prioritize or Perish. #Focus.
In any relationship, happiness to both is goal. But it rarely happens naturally. Often one only can be happy, the other cannot. Do not give up. If your partners happiness is your goal, the relationship goes to next level. If your happiness is your only goal, the relationship dies fast. Sacrifices strengthen relationships.
"One of the greatest victories you can gain over someone is to beat him at politeness." -Josh Billings
No, the world is not fair. And you don't always get what you deserve. And no matter what you did, the world doesn't owe you anything. Accept it. Get over it. Move on.
The day you realize that life has no purpose is the day you're liberated. Whatever your "purpose" is, it's just a story you tell yourself. So stay engaged in activities you like, even if they are disconnected and incoherent to others. That's far better than seeking purpose.
This whole thing of “early retirement” is not what people make it out to be. I had a call last week with a 34-yr old founder who exited his startup with a $5M payout and retired. He appreciates how comfortable his life is but at the same time he mentioned how he feels a big

Success in Career: Mathematically, Remunerations received in last 10 yrs of career / first 10 yrs of career. This ratio may vary from 10 to 10000. More than 100 means most successful and family is blessed. It is higher when intelligence and ability to make efforts to love the job, choose right priorities, focus well, learn fast, remain updated and consistently remain “disciplined and Grounded” This ratio has nothing to do with cost of degrees parents facilitated from best of universities 😂 Career a Marathon Race, not a 100M Dash.
So if age works against you, tech disruption is a constant, and even out-performance doesn't guarantee your keeping a job, what are you supposed to do? Don't aim for job security. It doesn't exist. Aim for financial security. That's much more in your control.
Be selective with your battles. Sometimes peace is better than being right.
